Acoustic shielding of outdoor industrial machinery
Industrial acoustic shielding
The situation we are about to explain is very common in industrial plants.
It is common for companies to locate part of their machines outside the production plant. These machines generate an external noise impact that can affect the nearby population. When these installations work all day and all night, the noise generated can significantly affect the rest of the neighbours.
In the image we can see (in blue) the area of the factory that contains all the outdoor installations that are considered to be the potential source of nuisance to the homes located at a distance of about 260 m (red circle).
Thanks to the technical means currently available to us, we will carry out an environmental impact noise map to determine the degree of non-compliance (if any) and determine the necessary corrective measures to ensure that the noise received by the affected homes is below the limits set by the applicable Noise Ordinance.
The noise map can be used to simulate different plant operating situations in order to determine the most appropriate solution for the case.
The acoustic model allows us to introduce all the noise sources that can cause nuisance in homes. All of them are located in the industrial plant and, from the sound power values obtained by on-site measurements, we can draw up a noise map of environmental acoustic impact that allows us to observe compliance with noise regulations.
By entering the sound power levels independently, the calculation model will allow us to see the acoustic impact of each source separately, adapting the calculation to the real operating situation of the machines according to the schedules defined by the industry under study.
Below we can see two noise maps. The one on the left is the initial situation obtained with the on-site measurements on the machines. The map on the right is the result of applying to the model the corrective measures that have been considered optimal to solve the noise problem.
Comparing both maps, we can clearly see the reduction that has occurred in the affected area with the proposed treatment, which allows compliance with the noise ordinance at night, including penalties.
The solution that has been proposed is based on the installation of acoustic shielding of the entire machinery area by means of Acustimódul-80A acoustic panels. It has been defined jointly with the client so that the activity of the machines and the maintenance operations are not affected.
The use of environmental impact noise maps allows us to achieve our objectives by providing the client with a very efficient tool.
Being able to simulate different situations of machine operation, at different times, with different acoustic emission characteristics depending on the process they work with, etc., means that economic investments are limited to real needs.
